We all know how much we pay to get electricity, one of the essential things that keeps are lives lightened. Many years ago, saving electricity was important for the welfare of environment, although we live in it, we do not care much. But today, as getting electricity is becoming too expensive, we now have a good reason, i.e. money, which makes us realize the importance of electricity and the need for using it judiciously. But what most of us do not know is that even in idle mode, our appliances consume at most 90% of the electric energy, which nowhere serves our purpose and is wasted. Therefore, when not in use, we should always remember to completely turn off the electric devices either by switching them off or by removing the plug from the socket.

There are few appliances which consume an excess amount of electricity and in most cases we have alternatives for them, thus we should try to avoid the use of such devices. Spin dryers fall in the same category and thus their use is not advisable at homes. Instead, we should go for sun drying and let the clothes dry naturally. Other less efficient appliances include old yellow bulbs, which add up 15% extra to the electricity bills. In the market, many new models are available which can be substituted for the traditional bulbs to save both electric energy and money. Further, we should use microwave oven for cooking rather than the conventional ovens that consume more energy. Likewise, a number of outdated equipment can be replaced with newer technology for quicker, easier and cheaper use.
Check for Energy Star Label while purchasing electrical appliances such as refrigerators, washing machines, microwaves, room heaters or air conditioner. This will ensure that the electric devices you will be installing at home save 30 percent of the energy. In this way, we can prevent electric bill prices from skyrocketing.

In addition to wisely using the present electricity supply system, we can also try out incorporating some other sources of energy so that our dependence they on electricity decrease. The two most used renewable forms of energy are - solar and wind. Today, in many homes solar heaters are used for heating water. Moreover, as water heating systems are kept working all the 24 hours, the usage of solar power for our needs obviously work better than the traditional electricity. As a result, we can cut short ample of money from the electricity bill. Similarly, we can enjoy the benefits of wind energy by installing wind turbines as alternatives to different appliances at homes.
